LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - We all know getting into college is important.  But make sure your kids are using their own words on their applications, because now more than ever schools are looking for plagiarism.

Turnitin is a program more than a 100 colleges and universities nationwide are using to weed out cheaters on applications. And that admissions offices have found between 3% and 20% of applicants cheated by using someone else's words in their essays.

So, how can you help? There are free web sites out there that let you plug in your child's essay to make sure there's nothing plagiarized in them.

Gammarly.com claims it's checked and approved 4,683,745 documents.

Dustball.com has a window where you simply cut and paste your writing to make a check.

And Plagiarisma.com offers free downloadable software for windows to help you check your work.
