LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Paintings most of us may only see overseas and in far away galleries are on display in Louisville.

The Speed Art museum will open an exhibit with a rare glimpse into artwork by world-renowned artists.

'Renoir to Chagall: Paris and the Allure of Color' opens at museum this week giving visitors a chance to get up close and personal with original artwork, including original Claude Monet paintings.

"In our region of Louisville, Southern Indiana and the rest of Kentucky, this is a big deal to have this many extraordinary pictures here for us to see," Charles Venable said, Director.

The exhibition is one of several events leading to the closure scheduled for October - when the museum will close for 3 years to begin a $50 million renovation.
