EVANSVILLE, IN (WAVE) – An attempted abduction of a child has a southern Indiana neighborhood on edge.
Evansville Police said two children were walking in an alley when one child was lured into a car. The child was sexually abused before managing to escape.
Police said this type of crime is uncommon in their city. Sgt. Jason Cullum said, "Most of the cases we see locally, it's a family member, maybe a non-custodial parent. So, for there to be a stranger come into the neighborhood and commit this crime, it's very unusual."
Tips from the community helped police arrest a suspect, 26-year-old Jack Perkins III, on child molestation charges.
