Pitt Academy Cheerleaders
For the first time in its history, the Special Olympics Cheerleading team from Pitt Academy has been invited to compete on the national level. They received their invitation after winning first place in the 2011 State Championship in the Advanced 1B division. Cheersport Nationals will be held February 17-19, in Atlanta, Georgia. Over 950 cheer teams will be competing, but only 20 Special Olympic teams received a bid.
"We have been very competitive in Kentucky, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to compete at the next level," said Michelle Rogers, head coach. "There is so much involved in competing at this level, but we have a very special group of young ladies that will represent our city and state well." The team is busy with fundraising efforts to help with their travel expenses. If you would like to help, you may send donations to the school earmarked "Cheer."
