(WMC-TV) – The Big East might give University of Memphis fans something to celebrate after an awful football season and a basketball season that hasn't lived up to many people's expectations.
An agreement to move the Tigers out of Conference USA and into the Big East is nearly a done deal according to an article written Tuesday by CBSSports.com's Brett McMurphy.
"The Tigers would join the Big East with three other Conference USA members – Houston, SMU and UCF – for the 2013-14 school year," McMurphy writes. "The Big East also will add Boise State and San Diego State as football-only members in 2013 and Navy in 2015."
The UofM would be accepted into the Big East as all-sports members, according to the article.
The conference is losing Pittsburgh and Syracuse to the Atlantic Coast Conference and West Virginia to the Big 12, but it's unclear when.
So far, University of Memphis officials have declined to comment on any potential changes in conferences. However, sources speculate that an announcement could be made as early as this week.
