City council stepping in to help bird problem

Posted: Updated:

LA GRANGE, KY (WAVE) –Thousands of birds that have been visiting an Oldham County neighborhood, causing a noisy and smelly problem, have now caused the city council to step in to help.

WAVE 3 showed you how thousands of birds covered the sky and how one community was battling the problem.

One solution residents were trying was shooting off a noise cannon. At the LaGrange city council meeting last week, council members voted to spend up to $2,000 to buy more noise cannons in an attempt to scare the birds away.

The council also considered hiring a contractor to use a spray that accelerates the bird's heart rates, making them uncomfortable and possibly forcing them to leave, and spreading lime on the ground to get rid of the odor from the bird droppings.

The mayor said many people have told him that if they leave the birds alone, they will eventually go away.
