(Louisville, KY)

The Louisville Cardinals overcame a 13 point second half deficit and beat West Virginia 77 to 74 Saturday afternoon in Morgantown.  U of L freshman Wayne Blackshear played for the first time this season and contributed 13 points in the victory.

Kyle Kuric, who led Louisville with 17 points, connected on a key three pointer late in the game to tie the score at 71-71. On the ensuing inbounds pass, West Virginia's toss-in was deflected by the Cardinals.  Russ Smith ,who added 16 points, came up with the ball and scored to put U of L up two points with only 2:21 to play.

Next West Virginia's Kevin Jones, who scored 22 points to go with his 11 rebounds, scored and was fouled, as he finished off the three point play to pull to the Mountaineers to within a point at 75 to 74 with 50 seconds to play.   After a Louisville missed shot,  West Virginia had another opportunity to make the lead, but Kyle Kuric came up with a  steal, was fouled, and then sank a pair of free throws to put the Cards up three, which proved to be the winning margin.

The Cards, now 20 and 5, will host number two Syracuse Monday night at the KFC Yum! Center.
