LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Kentucky Derby Festival announced this year's Thunder Over Louisville theme, "A Star Spangled Blast," on Monday.
The festival also announced that this year's air show and fireworks display will be an official nationwide event celebrating the Marine Aviation's centennial.
Sgt. Dakota Meyer, a Green County, KY native who last year received the Medal of Honor for his actions in Afghanistan, is this year's "Thundernator." That means he will push the button to get the show started on April 21.
Sponsors for this year's Thunder Over Louisville were also announced. They include UPS, LG&E, Horseshoe and Meijer.
Ford is sponsoring "Thunder on the Ground," which includes the Thunder FoodFest, the Interactive Display Area and the Kid's Play Areas on the Great Lawn.
Thunder Over Louisville kicks off the Kentucky Derby Festival which leads up to the greatest two minutes in sports, the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby, on May 5.
