Reports: Childhood cancer drug shortage averted

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Crisis averted, at least for now.

That's the word from federal health officials regarding a national cancer drug shortage.

Preservative-free Methotrexate is the 'gold standard' treatment for kids fighting the most common childhood cancer.

The 3 manufacturers of the drug did not return our calls today, but in statements this week report an increase in production.

Thursday, the Wall Street Journal quotes an FDA spokeswoman that 'the crisis will be resolved within two weeks."
