EVANSVILLE, IN (WAVE) - #1 Bellarmine (22-2, 14-2) fell for the first time in 2012, a 75-72 loss at #11 Southern Indiana (20-4, 12-4).
The Knights jumped out to a 32-16 lead, but the Screaming Eagles fought back to within 43-42 at the half. Brandon Hogg led USI with 23 points and 9 rebounds. It was Bellarmine's first loss since December 1, 2011, and just their second this season.
Southern Indiana outrebounded Bellarmine 42-32, including 15 offensive rebounds.
"They miss 31 shots and get 15 offensive rebounds, and they outshoot you 49 to 43, it's impossible to win," Bellarmine head coach Scott Davenport said.
Braydon Hobbs led the Knights with 20 points. Keisten Jones added 16 points and 6 rebounds. Chris Dowe had 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.
Bellarmine hosts #12 Kentucky Wesleyan Saturday night at 8 p.m. on "Senior Night."
