Ali celebrates birthday in Las Vegas, raises money for research

LAS VEGAS (WAVE) – Boxing great Muhammad Ali is using his recent birthday as a way to raise money for brain research.

Ali turned 70 in January. Saturday night 2,000 people attended a gala to celebrate his life and raised money for the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health and the Muhammad Ali Center.

Tickets started at $1,500 a plate and celebrities donated items for an auction that raised millions.

Tennis great Andre Agassi attended the event and said, "To be here's an honor. I mean Ali has changed us all and impacted us all whether we acknowledge it or not. And what we're doing right here in this community as it relates to brain health is changing us all, whether we're aware of it or not... so to watch it all come together is a great thing."

President Barack Obama told Muhammad Ali through a video message. In the message Obama said he shocked and inspired the world and continues to do so today.
