LAS VEGAS (WAVE) – Boxing great
Muhammad Ali is using his recent birthday as a way to raise money for brain
research.
Ali turned 70 in January.
Saturday night 2,000 people attended a gala to celebrate his life and raised
money for the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health and the
Muhammad Ali Center.
Tickets started at $1,500
a plate and celebrities donated items for an auction that raised millions.
Tennis great Andre Agassi
attended the event and said, "To be here's an honor. I mean Ali has changed us
all and impacted us all whether we acknowledge it or not. And what we're doing
right here in this community as it relates to brain health is changing us all,
whether we're aware of it or not... so to watch it all come together is a great
thing."
President Barack Obama
told Muhammad Ali through a video message. In the message Obama said he shocked
and inspired the world and continues to do so today.
