BARDSTOWN, KY (WAVE) – Police say a drug ring in Nelson County is halted after officers make four arrests.

This investigation has been in the works for sometime. Last week, the Bardstown Police Department conducted three search warrants at three different homes leading them to stolen property, drugs, and multiple arrests.

"We knew that there were items being stolen at Wal-Mart," said Captain Tom Roby with Bardstown Police. "We had video surveillance from the store of who was stealing these items."

Captain Roby says their latest group of arrests involves much more than shop-lifting. "One individual would give them a list of what they wanted at Walmart," said Roby. "They would go steal it, come back and trade it for narcotics."

Police say Quentin Montgomery, Tiffany Yates, Antonio Mason, and April Tonge all face a variety of charges including trafficking a controlled substance and receiving stolen property. Three of the arrests were made in two different homes on Federal Place and the other on Harrow Court.

Inside the homes, police recovered air compressors, power tools, car rims, and a motorcycle.
Captain Roby says the suspects would steal the items from Walmart and trade them for cocaine, marijuana, and prescription pills.

"It's shocking," said Carrie, a mom of six who lives nearby. "I didn't even know this was going on around here. I'm just relieved, relieved that they've got them."

As for this police investigation, Captain Roby says the drug driven crimes do not stop here. "Our economy is affecting a lot of crime, but people aren't stealing these items to go buy groceries," said Roby. "They are stealing it to go buy drugs."

Police say this investigation is ongoing. They do expect to make additional arrests in this case. If you have any information give them a call at 502-348-6811.
