Sugarland responds to stage collapse lawsuit

INDIANAPOLIS (WAVE) – The countrygroup Sugarland responded to a lawsuit claiming the bands negligence contributedto a stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair last August.

Seven people died and morethan 40 people were injured during the collapse.

In court documentsSugarland said the collapse was caused by a wind gust of "unprecedentedintensity" and was "a true accident, or act of God."

The band also said it hadnothing to do with the construction of the venue.

However, in an affidavit,the fair's executive director said she tried to talk the band into delaying theshow but the group insisted they wanted to go on.  Sugarland's tour manager said no one askedthe band to delay its performance.
