Sugarland responds to stage collapse lawsuit

INDIANAPOLIS (WAVE) – The country group Sugarland responded to a lawsuit claiming the bands negligence contributed to a stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair last August.

Seven people died and more than 40 people were injured during the collapse.

In court documents Sugarland said the collapse was caused by a wind gust of "unprecedented intensity" and was "a true accident, or act of God."

The band also said it had nothing to do with the construction of the venue.

However, in an affidavit, the fair's executive director said she tried to talk the band into delaying the show but the group insisted they wanted to go on.  Sugarland's tour manager said no one asked the band to delay its performance.
