4 dead, others critically injured in Washington County

PEKIN, IN (WAVE) - Four people are dead and another four are left critically injured after a storm hit Washington County Friday afternoon.

Of the four who died, Sheriff Claude Combs said he believes one was an infant, one was a child and the other two victims were adults. They died in their home on Old Pekin Road.

Eight or nine additional people had less serious injuries and were taken to local hospitals.

Sheriff Combs said they have stopped search and rescue operations because they believe they have found everyone who was originally unaccounted for.

Crews will begin to access the damage first thing Saturday morning.  

The damage in the area is intense and there is a lot if destruction if both homes and businesses.

Many roads are still closed with power lines down.  A shelter has been set up at the senior center in Salem for anyone who needs it.

The Sheriff said the tornados path came in on Horner Chapel Road and went out the same path that it powered in.
