Hail, tornadoes damage majority of town

HENRYVILLE, IN (WAVE) – Hail rained down from the sky, starting off the widespread damage in the town of Henryville.

Courtney Freeman was one among many whose cars were severely damaged by the large hail, "All of a sudden, just softball size hail started coming out of nowhere."

A significant tornado also tore through Henryville, destroying most of the town, throwing tractor trailers and cars around like toys. A storm so strong it leveled three schools. Brandy Burton, of Henryville, went to pick up her children, who attended the school located behind her home, when she heard a tornado touched down. "I walked back outside and I see debris just flying everywhere," Burton explained.

Emergency crews and civilians rushed to aid whomever they could.

Valerie Way stood crying, waiting to hear from her family, "I want my family to be okay. I'm looking at this family across the street and I'm hope she's ok."

WAVE 3 was told several people were injured. Emergency crews will be working through the night and next several days.
