Marathon Petroleum problem

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Fuel from certain gas stations in the area could cause safety-related issues.

Marathon Petroleum identified some of their gasoline contains more than 10 percent ethanol in the counties surrounding the greater Louisville area, excluding Jefferson county. Counties in southern Indiana have also been impacted.

If you purchased gasoline from March 3 on from Marathon Brand or Speedway locations Marathon Petroleum, it is recommended you do not operate small engines containing this fuel.

If the fuel with excess ethanol is used in small engines such as chainsaws, leaf blowers, generators, lawn mowers, etc. it will cause them to run faster and hotter than normal.

Marathon Petroleum is continuing to identify other retail locations in the impacted areas that may have been supplied with this gasoline and will provide additional information as soon as it becomes available. 

If you have a concern regarding your gasoline, they advise you to contact the retailer to determine if it was supplied by Marathon Petroleum.

Areas included on the warning are: 

Indiana : Crawford, Harrison, Orange, Perry, Clinton,Delaware, Clark, Floyd, Jackson, Jefferson, Scott and Washington.

Kentucky: Hardin, Meade, Grayson, Barren, Breckinridge,Warren, Fayette, Shelby, Pulaski, Bullitt, LaRue, Jessamine, Nelson, Anderson,Washington, Taylor, Mercer, Marion, Franklin, Woodford, Montgomery, Spencer,Lincoln, Henry, Carroll, Oldham, Trimble, Owen, Floyd and Powell.
