LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – First police said he robbed a St. Matthews store clerk at gunpoint and a month later the same man was wanted for shooting someone in the leg.
St. Matthews Police said thanks to a viewer's tip, the robbery suspect is in custody.
For a lot of people, the St. Matthews Mini Mart is part of their daily routine. "It is just a friendly neighborhood place, it has everything you need, why go anywhere else," said Steven Sweet, a regular customer.
Sweet remembers when the store was robbed back on Jan. 25. "I drove by and I saw the yellow tape and I just kind of stopped and I pulled in and started asking the cops what was going on," said Sweet.
St. Matthews Police were sure someone would recognize the man in the surveillance video, holding a semi automatic gun and demanding money.
The mini mart kept a constant reminder that the armed robber was still on the loose. "I was looking for the guy, too," said Sweet. "I saw the poster and I was like I will look around, too."
Nearly two months later investigators were able to track down who they were looking for, 18- year-old Isaiah Hudson.
"A story by you guys produced a tip that eventually led us to get this gentleman into custody," said Sgt. Tony Ford with St. Matthews Police.
They were given a name and soon Ford said investigators realized Hudson was not just wanted for their robbery. He said Hudson had an active warrant out for his arrest because Metro Police believe he shot and injured someone back in February. Hudson was arrested on Sunday near Westport Road and Lyndon Lane.
"Anytime there is a gun or weapon used, we most definitely want to get that off the street," said Ford.
"I'm glad they caught him, that's for sure," said Sweet.
Hudson is charged with first degree robbery and assault for the shooting. He was arraigned on Monday and expected back in court later this month.
