New driver's license branch coming, others relocating

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Plans have been announced to locate a driver's license branch in West Louisville.

In a decision Jefferson County Circuit Clerk David Nicholson called "long overdue," the new branch will be located in the NIA building, located at 2900 West Broadway, and is expected to open July 11.

Nicholson said, "West Louisville residents have been long undeserved. We have been working on the West Louisville branch for nearly four years as part of a larger plan to improve driver's license service for all Jefferson County residents."

In addition to the new West Louisville branch, the larger plan will include the relocation of the Okolona, Southwest and Downtown branches.

The Okolona branch will move to the Outer Loop Plaza, or more commonly called the Value Market Plaza, to 7505 Outer Loop, just down the street from its current location. The current location will close April 23 and the new location will open April 30.

The Southwest branch will move to K-mart Plaza, located at 4917 Dixie Highway. It will close March 17 and open March 21.

The Okolona and Southwest branches will be located in the same shopping centers as the offices of the Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw.

The Downtown branch will be right-sized and moved to the Old County Jail building at 514 West Liberty Street, in the space already occupied by the circuit clerk's office. It will open July 16.
