Malware attacks on smart phones, tablets more than doubled

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Smart phones, tablets and other computer devices seem to be in every hand and pocket, and a new report shows malware attacks on those devices have more than doubled in the past year.

Most of these attacks come in the form of spyware that is designed to capture your information and send it  on to someone else.

Apple's iPhone is touted as being one of the most secure devices out there, but mobile expert Liran Ma, a computer science professor, said they may not always be protected, "So far, for Apple based iPhones, we haven't seen real attacks yet, but I think it's just a matter of time. When apps try to ask you 'do you allow them to use your information', you may think twice before, oh yeah, I want to use it."

The bottom line is that these devices are just smaller computer, a lot like the ones sitting on desks.

Our advice: Don't do any private business on a public WIFI network and be careful about downloading apps.
