A Phoenix woman has pleaded guilty to lesser charges in the death of her 2-year-old son two years ago.

Wendy Rogel-Pagasa, now 20, pleaded guilty to negligent homicide and child abuse on Monday. Judge Rosa Mroz set a hearing on motions for April 11, but did not set a sentencing date.

She was originally charged with second-degree murder and child abuse in the death of her son, George.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 18-year-old Wendy Rogel-Pagasa entered her plea Wednesday. Her next court date is April 30.

Phoenix police say Rogel-Pagasa was arrested after her son died on Feb. 24.

They say she called 911 more than three hours after the boy lost consciousness.

Police say the child allegedly was beaten by Rogel-Pagasa's boyfriend, Juan Garcia.

Investigators say the boy was beaten for not eating his dinner.

Rogel-Pagasa was initially booked into jail on a felony child-abuse charge. Court documents show a second-degree murder charge was added from a grand jury indictment.
