PHOENIX (CBS5/AP) -

A Phoenix woman has been sentenced to three years in prison for negligent homicide in the death of her 2-year-old son.

Wendy Rogel-Pagasa was sentenced Thursday. She had pleaded guilty in November to negligent homicide and child abuse in the February 2012 death of Jorge Zamora-Rogel.

Police say the boy was fatally beaten by Rogel-Pagasa's boyfriend, Juan Garcia, after the toddler refused to eat his dinner.

Garcia was sentenced last month to 25 years in prison in the case.

Maricopa County prosecutors say Rogel-Pagasa was arrested after her son died on Feb. 24, 2012. They say she called 911 more than three hours after the boy lost consciousness.

Rogel-Pagasa was initially booked into jail on a felony child-abuse charge. Court documents show a second-degree murder charge was added from a grand jury indictment.
