Mother pushing for road improvements after son killed

VANDENBURGH COUNTY, IN (WAVE) – The mother of a firefighter killed in a crash in is pushing for road improvements.

18-year-old Jeremy Tighe died Feb. 22 when his fire truck overturned on a narrow road.

Tighe's mother, Jerri Johnson, said the road is hazardous for drivers, "If you go a hair over the line you're in the ditch and to me that's unacceptable, if the road would have been wider my son would be here today."

Johnson said several people have told her they have wrecked on the same stretch of road and that the roadway is barely wide enough for the width of a fire truck.
