Attorney wants law limiting financial aid for student athletes overturned

FRANKFORT, KY (WAVE) – Should young student athletes be forced to quit sports because they received a full academic scholarship to a private school?

That is the debate in a lawsuit filed against the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.

Louisville attorney Ted Gordon is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the rule that limits the amount of financial aid for athletes. The rule said if the students play sports they can only accept 25 percent of tuition costs.

Gordon cites one girl who went to Presentation and quit track and field to keep her full academic scholarship.
