Louisville may be the country's manliest place, most compassionate place, and most delectable place to eat according to various reputable outlets, but growing as a manufacturing place will be key to sustainable growth as a community.
The manufacturing resurgence got a jump start this week with General Electric announcing plans to add 600 jobs and invest $800 million in Appliance Park in Louisville to manufacture new refrigerators. Last month, Appliance Park began producing new water heaters. The refrigerators and water heaters are GE's first new product lines in Louisville in more than 50 years.
Investing in manufacturing, taking risks, and committing to innovation and technology will accelerate our nation's worldwide competitiveness and it is an encouraging sign that one of the world's top companies is doing all three – and doing it in our region!
Enhancing our chances of a manufacturing boom in this region will be passing Governor Beshear's proposed budget that includes funding for new bridges across the Ohio River here.
We hope our legislators provide the visionary leadership to make that happen.
