LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – You didn't have to be in Lexington or the Big Easy to cheer on the Cats. There were plenty of UK fans in Louisville.
Big Blue Nation flooded Louisville bars Monday night. "This is huge, this is unbelievable," said UK fan Jeff Douglas. "I can't believe we got past Louisville, and I just want to beat Kansas so bad."
At Dundee Tavern and Grill in the Highlands, fans crossed their fingers, hoping the Cats would be able to bring home a win. "It took them a second to really get started, but then they really started hitting it and hitting their defense and making the other team eat it basically," said UK fan Bryn Turner.
For the state of Kentucky, it's been a basketball tournament unlike any other. "I'm not a Cardinal fan, but I'm glad that they were there with us. It made it magical, and frankly, if they would have won, I would have been rooting for them," said UK fan Billy Wade. "So it's about bringing it back to the state where basketball is King."
But on Monday night, it was all about the blue and white. "We're going to take it home, bring it home," said Wade. "Number eight for us."
These fans have no doubt, this year's championship belongs to the Bluegrass. "It's been a magical ride. You know it will be hard to duplicate another season like this one," said Wade.
