LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Norton Healthcare and Kosair Children's Hospital are teaming up to provide a new immediate care center that provides an after-hours option for Kentuckiana children needing medical attention.

Norton Healthcare has 12 immediate care centers throughout the community. While any of them can provide pediatric care, the one on at 7926 Preston Highway in Okolona is now staffing pediatric experts to specifically treat children who come through those doors.

Because it is the Norton ICC that treats the most kid visits, officials said it was the obvious place to start.

"Pediatric offices routinely close at five in the afternoon," said Dr. Joshua Honaker, vice president of Norton Physician Services System, "and when that occurs a lot of parents have questions and needs that may not be ER (Emergency Room) related but they can't wait until the next morning.

Anything parents feel they pediatrician can take care of - sore throats, fevers, colds, minor injuries – Dr. Honaker said the Norton ICC will also be able to take care of at night or in the weekend.

Dr. Honaker said they will assess the impact at the Preston Highway location to determine if more pediatric ICCs will be added.

After pediatric care hours are 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
