Shooting sends 3-year-old to the hospital

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A shooting in the west end Friday evening sent a toddler to the hospital.

According to Louisville Metro Police, they received a call around 8 o'clock of a shot fired at a home near 41st and Muhammad Ali. About a 30 minutes later police received a call of a child being shot.

Police said a 3-year-old boy was shot thru the leg. He was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

It was a scary scene for members of the spirit of love church who told WAVE 3 they were on a prayer walk in this same area, carrying a cross and inviting people to Easter Sunday, when they saw everything unfold.

"I heard a bunch of gunshots and it was all kind of going on right around us," said witness Chad Rehnberg. "We were just praying and asking God to put an end to the violence."

Rehnberg did not see the injured child. Police are now in the process of interviewing people in the area and are at the hospital talking to the family of the 3-year-old.
Police are looking for a black male, wearing dark clothing, who fled from the scene on foot. The man is armed with a handgun.

If you have any information, you are asked to call (502) 574-LMPD.
