LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – They're not household names yet, but they will soon rub elbows with the stars as ambassadors of The Julep.

The Julep is the James Graham Brown Cancer Center's Derby event that raises money for cancer research.

Jessica Rizzo, a single mother with a 3-year-old son, is battling an aggressive form of breast cancer and will be an ambassador for the event. She told WAVE 3 a little about her journey, "It doesn't have to mean it's the end, you know it's really the beginning, the beginning of you conquering the disease and getting on with your life. And I have an appreciation for life that I never had before, and for the people around me. It's just been a wonderful experience, if that's possible to say."

The survivor ambassadors will participate in numerous Derby related events leading up to the Julep.
