Dad served in the 10th Mountain Division, the 86th in Italy during 1944-1945.

He spent nine months stateside and nine months overseas.

His basic training was at Ft. McClellan Alabama.

He was 26 years old when he was drafted in June of '44, entering the army one week before it was ruled that no fathers age 26 or over would be drafted.

He left his wife and two sons, ages three and one and a half at home in Louisville. Luckiily he returned home in November 1945 (with only a hole from a german bulitt in his helmet, received while bathing in a river), to raise his sons as well as two daughters born two years and twelve years later!
