James fought on the beaches of Normandy and in the Battle of the Bulge. He was also General Patton's personal barber at one time.

He never spoke of the casualties and devastation of the war with his children until he was on his death bed.  He did talk about the time he met Ingrid Bergman.  His friends confirmed to the family that he was General Patton's Barber.

He was 83 when he passed on, born in 1916.

He didn't receive his medals until after he died.
