George Cain served in the US Navy as a Pharmacist Mate on the USS Conklin DE-439 from 1944 to 1946 in the Pacific War during WWII.

The USS Conklin took part in hunter killer patrols in search of Japanese submarines. The Conklin destroyed two submarines while being attacked by kamakaze pilots.

George Cain served on the Conklin with another Louisville resident, William Beasley .
