Animal therapy group teams with Commonwealth Attorney's Office

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Although it was raining cats and dogs outside, it didn't stop cats and dogs from attending a meeting inside with their owners.

Animals of all ages and sized poured into Anchorage Presbyterian Church Saturday morning for a monthly meeting as part of the program Wonderful Animals Giving Support, or WAGS.

The therapy pets visit people of all ages providing them with comfort and a companion.

Recently, the group partnered with the Commonwealth Attorney's Office to allow the dogs to visit with children who are either victims or witnesses, before they testify in court. Not only do the dogs help calm the children and help get their mind off the stressful situation, but many times the children will tell the dogs secrets they do not want people to hear.

When the children have to leave the dogs they are given a card with the dogs picture. WAGS Founder Linda Laun said this helps comfort the children. They can look back at the card and remember the dog if they get nervous.

The current funds for the card program have dried up, but that organization is not letting that stop them from sprinkling joy where they can.
