U.S. Marine from Louisville dies in Afghanistan

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A U.S. Marine from Louisville has died in Afghanistan while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom, according to the Department of Defense.

Cpl. Aaron M. Faust, 22, died April 15 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, NC.

Faust was a food service specialist. He joined the Marine Corps in November 2007. Faust's unit deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom back in December 2011. His unit was scheduled to come back home in mid-summer of this year.

The Faust family released the following statement to WAVE3: "The family of our son and brother appreciate the many expressions of sympathy extended to us during this very difficult time. We ask that you continue to remember us and all of those serving our country in your thoughts and prayers."

According to his Facebook page, Cpl. Faust attended DeSales High School in Louisville.

The incident is under investigation.
