School vouchers cause debate in Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (WAVE) – School vouchers are giving way to another debate for state officials in Indiana.

Supporters argued in court briefs that striking it down because some schools are affiliated with churches would add up to unnecessary government interference into religion.

Opponents lead by the Indiana State Teachers Association want the court to overturn the law. They said it violates the Constitutional separation of church and state because it compels tax payers to pay for schools that teach religion.

The Indiana attorney General's Office and other groups defending the law said parents are free to send their children to any school they want.
