(LOUISVILLE, April 10th, 2004, 10:20 p.m.) -- A southern Indiana woman found with gunshot wounds in her car in the 700 block of Marshall Court Friday afternoon died early Saturday morning at University Hospital. It's the second time since Wednesday that the area adjacent to the Clarksdale housing complex was the scene of a violent crime. WAVE 3's James Zambroski has the latest.
Police say the victim, 45-year-old Pauline Lay of Jeffersonville, was shot inside her maroon Chevy Lumina. She was found by police in her car after being called by EMS personnel about 2 p.m.
Officers spent the day canvassing the neighborhood looking for witnesses.
Neighbors we spoke with didn't see or hear anything and didn't recognize the car. One woman, who didn't want to be identified, expressed a common outrage. "Why do they have guns? I don't know -- I fear the people putting the guns on the street more than I do the children who have the guns."
The woman says the violent crimes are happening "because of drugs."
Second District Commander Maj. Lewis Sharper says there's no pattern or apparent link between this shooting and other shootings in recent days. "There were times last summer that we had a couple of daytime shootings also, so it's really hard to predict, and that's one of the things that makes it so hard to stay on top of these because they are so hard to predict."
Less than 48 hours after the woman was found shot in her car Friday, someone shot and killed 26-year-old Daryl Grider while he was sitting in the backseat of a car in the 700 block of Marshall Court.
