LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Two children are fine and in good condiation after a chain reaction crash involving a JCPS school bus on I-64 East near downtown. A metro EMS transported the kids to Kosair Children's Hospital around 7 a.m. Thursday.
A driver in a Silver Chevrolet Impala hit Bus 0772 carrying Wesport Middle School students. The bus had to make a sudden stop when the vehicle in front of the bus swerved to the shoulder of the interstate. Frank Houston was behind the wheel.
Houston said the lug nuts in his front right tire became loose. "I couldn't steer it any more, so I eased it over to the side. All could do was stop it. Traffic was coming and the bus slowed downn," Houston said.
Just as the bus hit the brakes, so did the Impala. LMPD's Traffic Unit is investigating the accident.
JCPS Bus 0772 will be evaluated and assessed before it's used in the school system's fleet again.
Only two people, the students, were taken to the hospital. They complained of minor neck pain. No one else was hurt.
