Domestic violence situation turns fatal

GUSTON, KY (WAVE) – What started as a domestic situation, turned into a deadly shooting.

According to a police statement, police had received calls about a domestic situation between 29-year-old Joshua Wemes and his girlfriend.

Wemes' girlfriend had left and gone to her daughter home to seek shelter away from him.

Around 4:15 p.m. Friday Wemes drove his girlfriend's car and rammed the side of her daughter's trailer. He then got out of the car, kicked in the front door and entered the home on Berry Cain Road.

Police said once he entered the home his girlfriends son-in-law, 22-year-old Quinton Phillips, fired one shotgun round at Wemes, hit him in the stomach and killed him.

After the shooting officers found chemicals to make meth in Weme's car.

Phillips is a soldier stationed at Ft. Knox. The investigation is ongoing but police said no charges are being held against him at this time.
