LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A lockdown at Jefferson County elementary school after a nearby business was held up has been lifted.
According to MetroSafe, Louisville Metro Police officers were called to the Greenwood Smoke Shop at 7429 Terry Road around 2:10 p.m.
Police were looking for a black male suspect armed w ith a silver handgun who fled the scene. The suspect was wearing a black hoodie and sweatpants.
While the search for the robbery suspect was in progress Greenwood Elementary School at 5801 Greenwood Road was placed in lockdown.
Lauren Roberts, a JCPS spokesperson, said all children were brought inside the school and the building was secured as LMPD officers searched nearby streets. Roberts tells WAVE 3 the lockdown was lifted around 3 p.m. She also said neighboring Pleasure Ridge Park High School was not part of the lockdown and students were dismissed on time at 2:20 p.m., but cars were prevented from using the exits at the rear of the school.
LMPD public information spokesperson Alicia Smiley said officers have detained three people for questioning in connection with the robbery. At this time, no charges have been filed against them.
