Heritage Conservation Fund established to work on Whiskey Row

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Developers hope to begin work on the Whiskey Row area despite projected costs to be more than expected.

Friday leaders announced what they called a stabilization update. They're partnering with the National Trust for Historic Preservation to establish a Heritage Conservation Fund.

The fund is a non-profit revolving equity and loan fund dedicated to local historic preservation.

The Louisville agency will actually be a model to create more around the country. Mayor Greg Fischer believes this project is important to the community.

Investors committed a little over $2 million to the fund to get the building stabilized.

Christy Brown, of the Brown-Forman family, made a challenge pledge of $1 million. The challenge is that she will donate the money if they city agrees to raise the same amount through public or private donations.
