LOUISIVLLE, KY (WAVE) – A hand transplant patient showed off his results in front of a group of doctors at Jewish Hospital.

Friday Ronald Thurman showed off his new hands functions to the doctors from Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana during a Tri-state Hand Conference.

Thurman, who had the surgery in February, is getting ready to head home in Marion, Indiana.

He spoke about how the transplant was like a dream come true, "I never dreamt I'd have a hand again. You know, like I said, I had accepted it.  And you don't ever like it. There's nothing to like about it. But you know, it's something I had accepted. But once I found out or thought I had the opportunity to get one, I certainly wanted a hand."

Thurman said he found out about the procedure when he read an article about another Indiana man who also received a hand transplant from the Louisville Hand Transplant Team.

He will continue physical therapy once he returns home.
