LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A mother, whose son was gunned down in their Cloverdale apartment, appeared before a judge Thursday morning on charges she plotted to kill a witness in another shooting. The teen boy had nothing to do with the series of events, according to police.

Kendra Wilson is accused of being part of a twisted ring of violence before her son, Gregory Holt, 15, was shot and killed.

Wilson's attorney said police arrested a grieving mother who was not involved in the criminal activity. "You have a mother who is in jail right now shortly after burying her son," Attorney Derwin Webb said.

Police claim the attempted murder happened one day before Wilson's son was shot and killed. Wilson also faces robbery, assault and intimidating a participant in the legal process. Wilson pleaded not guilty.

LMPD investigators charged Wilson with the attempted murder of James Mallory, a man who's been a central figure in several violent crimes.

"Right now you have some credibility issues. You have a person that is stating that she was involved in this case, a person that is charged with killing her son and you have another person who is a co-defendant in this case that is on the run," Webb said.

It's a bizarre turn of events because Wilson is now charged with the attempted murder of James Mallory, a man who's been a central figure in several violent crimes.

Police believe Mallory and two other men went to Wilson's home looking for her.

Sources close to the case said police believe Wilson tipped off William O'Bannon about where to find Mallory. O'Bannon was charged with trying to shoot Mallory on Tuesday.

According to police records, O'Bannon and two others confronted Mallory about testifying against their friend, John "Hot Boy" Jones at his trial.

Mallory claims he tried to run and was grazed by a bullet. Sources told WAVE 3 police believe Mallory then showed up in retaliation at Wilson's home killing her son.

If it seems confusing, you're not alone. Even Kendra Wilson's attorney is trying to understand it all.

"I'm trying to get my arms around all this like everyone else and the person who has to suffer from all this is Ms. Wilson," Webb said.

Wilson is being held on a $500,000 bond.
