Reopening the Parkland Boys and Girls Club is one step in taking back the neighborhood in West Louisville.
Children need and parents want a safe environment. No one wants to have a school bus route changed due to gunshots. No one wants to frantically worry about their sons and daughters due to bloodshed caused by violence. No one wants to be afraid to leave their own home.
The lives lost this past week hardly speaks to the compassionate city Louisville aspires to be and many steps must be taken to make sure the seeds leading to the outbreak of terror are addressed before this becomes the norm and not the exception.
Taking Back Our Neighborhoods requires us to speak out and hold the guilty accountable. It requires us to work together to engage our young people in positive directions. Education must become the valued currency – not handguns.
Hope must replace fear. The threat of violence must not strangle our neighborhoods. Confront the problems. Our children deserve better.
