LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A four-year-old child was rushed to the hospital Friday after falling multiple stories from a parking garage. A witness told WAVE 3 the child fell from the fourth floor level of the parking garage at Medical Plaza III located on Dutchmans Lane at Browns Lane.
Saint Matthews police confirmed to WAVE 3 that the child was with his mother at the time of the incident. The mother and son were leaving a doctor's appointment when the little boy somehow got away from his mother and child's backpack fell over the side of the parking structure. A driver who saw it happening and yelled the boy to stay put, but the child went after the backpack and fell face first.
The boy was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital by EMS for treatment. As of 2:10 p.m. Brian Rublein, a Norton Healthcare spokesperson, said the boy is listed in serious condition.
According to Dr. Keith Cross, a physician at Kosair Children's Hospital, the boy's injuries are serious and the long term prognosis is unknown at this point. While Dr. Cross said he couldn't be specific about the injuries suffered, he did say the boy will be hospitalized for several days.
Police said they do not believe foul play was involved and that the fall was an accident. Dr. Cross said the child's parents are with him and they are very upset about the incident.
