A childhood character on a serious mission

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A cute character from childhood could also help honor the fallen this weekend.

Lamb Chop and Mallory paid a visit to the kids at the Home of the Innocents Saturday morning and while it's a lot of fun for the children, the visit to Louisville actually has a serious purpose.

The puppet and her sidekick will auction off items at a charity event this weekend which will benefit the BentStar Project.

The project works to locate and bring home the remains of prisoners of war and troops missing in action in World War II.

Daniel O'Brien with the BentStar Project explained what the project meant to him, "They defended it, they put their lives on the line and they paid that price  and for us to be able to try and cover their remains, try and bring some final answers to the families other than they died, somewhere over there."

Lamb Chop will be at The Marcus Linsey located at 8th and Main Streets in downtown Louisville on Sunday evening.

The event starts at 7 p.m. and admission is free.
