LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Fire officials say lightning struck an apartment building, causing a fire in Buechel Tuesday morning.

The incident happened just before 9:00 in the 3400 block of Fountain Drive at the Fountain Square Apartments.

Richard Harrison, assistant chief of the Buechel Fire Department, said the two upstairs apartments were damaged by fire; the others sustained water damage.

Harrison said when firefighters arrived, four people were inside the building. One person was rescued from a second story balcony. Three others were evacuated from the stairwell.

Harrison said no one was injured, but 15 or 16 people were displaced from the building's seven units.

The Red Cross is stepping in to help the affected residents.
