FRANKFORT, KY (WAVE) – Two separate semi crashes shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 64 near Frankfort for four hours Friday morning.
Nathan Warren, 41, of Science Hill, KY lost control of the Kenworth tractor trailer he was driving and overturned at the 48 mile marker just before 5 a.m., according to Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton.
Deputies said as they were responding to the crash, Reginald Richardson of Sand Springs, OK swerved to avoid the accident scene, ran into a ditch and flipped the Freightliner tractor trailer he was driving.
The Kenworth semi was hauling food from Somerset, KY to various Louisville restaurants. The Freightliner semi was carrying rolled steel from Ohio to Alabama. Neither truck lost its load, and no one was injured in either crash.
Melton said both truckers have been driving commercial vehicles for more than 20 years each. Both men told Melton this was the first time in their careers that they had been involved in serious accidents.
The cause of the first crash was under investigation, but the driver told the sheriff that his truck had been lurching to the right following recent repair work, and that it lurched just before Friday's accident.
