SHELBYVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The good Samaritans who rushed to help the sole survivor of a crash that killed three were honored with a certificate.

On May 19, the teens headed home from prom on Interstate 64 near Simpsonville were stopped by a crash where they found Maranda White injured and her mother, stepfather and uncle killed.

The group talked to Maranda until help arrived and Friday they were honored by Shelby County Emergency Medical Services for their heroism.

Sarah Figg, who assisted after the crash, felt honored to be called a hero, "When they started coming up and saying thank you for all you've done you've saved a person's life you've saved my family's life you saved Miranda I was just starting to cry because I did something good."

Maranda is out of the hospital. She said the students who saved her life are like family now.
