FRANKFORT, IN (WAVE) – An
Indiana high school student who was stuck in Mexico in the middle of an immigration
battle made it back in time for graduation.
Elizabeth Olivas received
her diploma Saturday, graduating second in her class at Frankfort High School.
Olivas was stuck in Mexico
for six weeks while trying to follow immigration law.
The law required she
return to her birthplace in Mexico to apply for a VISA 180 days before her 18th
birthday, but she missed the deadline by one day.
Luckily the State
Department granted her a VISA in time to make it back for the ceremony.
