OLDHAM COUNTY, KY (WAVE) - Several accidents disrupted the Tuesday morning commute along a stretch of Interstate 71 in Oldham and Jefferson Counties.

In the most recent accident, two cars collided and overturned in the northbound lanes of I-71 near mile marker 11, about two miles north of the Gene Snyder Freeway/I-265 in Jefferson County. The accident happened shortly after 7:30 a.m. No one was injured. One northbound lane was open, allowing traffic through. The other lanes have since reopened.

An earlier, more serious accident shut down all southbound lanes of I-71 in Oldham County for four hours and injured several people. Dispatchers said two vehicles crashed around 4 a.m. near the 13 mile marker and the rest area at Buckner.

Police said three adults and one child in one of the vehicles were rushed to a hospital by ambulances. Their conditions are not known. Rescue crews had called in a helicopter to help transport the injured, but fog was too heavy for air travel. The person in the second vehicle -- a pickup truck -- was not injured.

Police did not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

I-71 reopened at mile marker 13 around 8 a.m.

The southbound lanes of I-71 were closed after the morning rush to clear a third accident scene. A semi tractor trailer overturned along the side of the interstate just before the LaGrange exit.

No one was injured, and the accident did not cause any traffic problems. Police decided to wait to close the interstate and clean up that accident scene after rush hour ended. That stretch of interstate reopened just before 10:30 a.m.

Vehicles detoured around the first accident scene were also causing problems. Dispatchers said Highway 329 at State Road 22 shut down because a semi clipped a utility pole. Highway 22 reopened around 8 a.m.

A similar issue tied up traffic at Highway 146 and Railroad Avenue in Crestwood where a tractor trailer was blocking the railroad tracks.

Dispatchers said CSX stopped rail traffic while the truck and other traffic was moved out of the way.
