The Hamilton County Coroner said Wednesday that the cause and manner of death of a teen who was tased last year is unknown.
Everette Howard, 18, was tased by UC Police during a reported fight in August of last year. Howard appeared to go in to cardiac arrest shortly after the tasing and was taken to University Hospital, where he died.
Hamilton County Coroner Dr. Lakshmi Sammarco reviewed the case and pathological findings and enlisted the Mayo Clinic for additional specialized testing. Those tests will take an additional three months to process, but officials say it was unlikely the results would significantly impact the cause and manner of death.
"Our sympathies are extended to the family," Dr. Sammarco said in a news release. "It is always tragic to lose a loved one but particularly a child. Despite the tremendous efforts of the coroner's staff, it is frustrating not to be able to ascertain a definitive cause of death."
Howard was a graduate of North College Hill High School, where he was a wrestler. Police reports show he had also been tased in January of 2009 while at school.
