LAUREL COUNTY, KY (WAVE) – Sheriffs arrested
a couple after cold checks were used to purchase household items.
Sheriff John Root said they received a complaint
of a theft at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday. The witnesses said they saw a silver Dodge
pickup traveling northbound on U.S. 25.
Police said the vehicle tried to get
away, but was stopped a short distance away.
39-year-old Anthony Ayers and
35-year-old Linda Sizemore were both charged and taken into custody.
An investigation determined the couple had
written cold checks to at least two businesses. They purchased items such as a
mattresses, lumber, carpet and furniture and sold the items to a woman on
Keve Lane for cash. The checks the couple were allegedly writing were from a closed
account.
They are both charged with theft by deception,
cold checks under $10,000 and forgery. Ayers is also being charged on 24
outstanding bench warrants. Sizemore is being charged with three outstanding
bench warrants.
As the investigation continued, police
arrested 55-year-old Melissa Hill, the owner of the mobile home on Keve Lane,
and charged her with receiving stolen property under $10,000.
All of the stolen property has been recovered. All three are being lodged in
the Laurel County Detention Center.
